Hi everyone and welcome back. Today I will be discussing the types of blogs that will be posted on my site...

Within my blog I will be discussing several differing topics surrounding fashion and social media, specifically how and what fashion and beauty trends have formed on the social media platform, TikTok. Mostly, I want my blog to be focusing on the fun, creative side of fashion, although I will be covering the cultural side of it and its connection to social medias modern circumstances. Topics of creativity that will be discussed throughout my blog includes how-to-style tips, emerging trends, makeup ideas, TikTok aesthetics, social media’s impact on fashion and other fun topics. These will be some of the more major sections of my blog, with the differing posts falling under some of these categories as these are the kind of topics that I find most fun to learn and write about.

As well as these aspects, my blog will also cover the now dominating ideal surrounding aesthetics and how each person holds their own unique, individual style, but can at the same time belong to their own niche communities within the TikTok platform. The niche communities are flourishing due to the ability of the features of TikTok, introducing members of communities to each other through features such as the ‘for you page’. Personally, I would most identify with the niche community of the alternative style, early 2000’s goth fashion. This niche community focuses on dark colours and alternative clothing choices inspired by the 2000’s era most popular fashion trends such as low-waisted fits, crop tops, denim, maximalism, etc. I believe TikTok has transformed the ways in which fashion is now viewed by the younger generation, Gen Z, and I want to portray this throughout my blog.

Aesthetics are known for a specific unique style and often have certain symbols, colours and clothing items attached to it. Aesthetics that are very popular on TikTok at the moment include soft girl, e-girl, alt, cottage-core, dark academia, and many others. Within my blogs, I want to connect this idea of the newly formed system of fashion and discuss how social media in particular, TikTok, has facilitated this change through strategic algorithms such as the ‘for you page’.

Although I more enjoy the creative side of this research I think that it will also be important for me to delve into the ideas surrounding cultural change and the shifting in fashion consumption due to TikTok. TikTok has allowed fast fashion to be exposed for its wrong doings, reaching an audience this message has previously been hard to reach through the use of hashtags to encourage activism, exposing brands that have been practicing unethical processes.

Awareness of small businesses has been brought to the attention of more people through this platform and this is due to the fact small businesses creative processes are able to be shown to users through TikTok videos. An example being, a small business demonstrating through their TikTok account how their product is made, packaged and delivered, allowing full transparency for potential customers. This has encouraged users to buy from these small businesses instead of from large corporations, also because the intimate videos portray to users that it is better to support a hard-working, independent owner, in comparison to a large company that is unethical.

The reason as to why I have decided to create this blog, and not alternatively maintain my main source of communication with my viewers through TikTok, is because I believe that a blog will allow for more advantages. This includes being able to post a full argument in one blog, not over several TikTok videos. This is due to the fact that TikTok has a maximum filming time of one minute per video, which would not be enough time to get my point across in full detail. I also think that a blog is useful in that I will be able to provide links imbedded within the text to allow for readers to access more blogs and websites about the same topics I am discussing in mine, in case they are wanting to read more into it.
